Be Ready for the Moment

There are moments in sports where everything changes in the blink of an eye. One injury can shake up a team’s world and their hopes of success. Suddenly, a backup player is in the spotlight, with the pressure of the world on them. In these moments, it’s about preparation and being ready for the moment.

Look at Nick Foles. He wasn’t the guy for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a backup all season, watching from the sidelines while Carson Wentz led them to a dominant season that looked like a Super Bowl was in sight. But late in the season, Wentz tore his ACL, sidelining him and changing everything. Now it was Foles’ turn.

Foles didn’t just step up to the moment; he delivered at an elite level. He led the Eagles through the playoffs and eventually won Super Bowl LII in a classic duel against Tom Brady. He played with confidence, composure, and complete control on the biggest stage. He didn’t look like a backup; he looked like an elite starter. His preparation to be ready for his moment turned into a championship.

That’s how opportunity works in life. It doesn’t always come when you expect it. The most important thing is to be prepared for when your name does get called. You may feel capable of more but stuck without the opportunity. But through constant work and preparation, I promise your efforts will be noticed and you will get your opportunity. And when that happens, don’t lose your composure, but perform like you know you can.
